March 28, 2009

Over 20 people attended the March Ypsi Urban Farmer Breakfast at Bombadill's, brought to you by Growing Hope. The air was warm, the morning sun shining, and folks really seemed excited for spring.

People shared what they are doing in the community and the theme of sharing and how to work together seemed to carry over from the past two breakfasts. It seems Ypsi urban farmers are looking for ways to share and create a strong community around urban agriculture.

Peter Thomason took a group over to Thomason Family Farm to check out seedlings, rabbits, chickens, and goats.

Lisa Bashert has been hosting free movie nights as part of Ypsilanti Transition Town.

Student's at EMU are starting a garden and looking for tips, collaborators, and willing workers in the community.

There was talk of bees, inventory mapping, movie nights, community potlucks, and low income garden installs.

Thank you to all who made it out bright and early on Saturday and I'll see you in April.

Here's a link to a Google Map of existing and potential garden plots in and around Ypsilanti. Please add your garden, or where you'd like to see a garden, to this map. Green marks mean existing, and blue marks mean potential.
